#Engage, Energize,& Educate

October 3rd, 2026

Dear Families,

Mrs. Dohoney and I have had the opportunity to observe many engaging and hands-on science lessons as our teachers implement our new Smithsonian Science curriculum. Students are actively learning through exploration, investigation, and experimentation. In third grade, students recently designed, built, and tested their own anemometers to measure wind speed. It was wonderful to see students collaborating, problem-solving, and applying scientific concepts in a meaningful, hands-on way. We are excited to continue seeing our students learn, wonder, and discover through this new curriculum!

Lost & Found

Lost & Found Since this photo has been taken, the Lost & Found table has grown to over 30 sweatshirts, water bottles, and lunch boxes.  We encourage you to label all of your child’s belongings so they can be easily identified and returned to your child.  All items remaining in our Lost & Found will be donated on WEDNESDAY, October 7th.

Hi-FIVE Fridays Are Coming to PVES! 👋

We are excited to announce that we will be bringing Hi-FIVE Fridays to PVES! Beginning soon, members of various Smithfield High School sports teams and Unified will join us on Fridays just before school begins to welcome our students as they arrive at Door 1 and Door 4.

This is a fun way to build connections between our schools, build a sense of belonging and create a positive start to the day, and give our younger Pandas the opportunity to see and connect with our SHS student-athletes. We can’t wait to see those high-fives and start Fridays with lots of positive energy! 👋🐼

Fire Safety

October is Fire Safety Month, and we will be welcoming our local fire department to PVES at the end of the month for special fire safety assemblies with our students. We encourage all families to take this opportunity to review your family’s home fire escape plan, make sure everyone knows where to meet outside, and practice your exit plan together. Please also remember to check and replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to help keep your family safe. A little preparation can make a big difference in an emergency!

🐼 Volunteers Needed!

Do you have your volunteer training completed?

Is your background check current?

If you answered yes to both questions, you are qualified to volunteer at PVES! We would love to have you join us and help make a difference in our school community.

Doggy Treats!

🐾Did you know that Mrs. Viera passes out dog treats to our four-legged friends every Thursday? Our PVES Pandas love showing off their furry family members, so we thought we would share a few pictures of our Pandas’ pets! 🐶❤️ We hope these adorable pups bring a smile to your day!  🐾
