Dear PVE Families,

It has been a very exciting week at Pleasant View.  On Monday, January 22nd SSELAC came to award Mrs. Squillante with January's monthly SSELAC award.  This award is given to a Smithfield staff member for their positivity and efforts in working towards inclusivity!

On another positive note, our school is being highlighted by the District’s Wellness Committee on the rituals and routines that are established in our cafeteria. We have installed LED lights (with posters to explain the light colors) in the front of the cafeteria as a visual to signal to students that it is time to talk (green) with an indoor voice.  As lunch is winding down (25-27 minutes), the lights change to red to signal to students that it is time to finish lunch and make your way to the bathroom then to the liquid, compost, landfill, and recycling stations. In some cases, classical music is also played when the lights are red.

Our lunchtime rituals and routines are systemic to allow for almost 200 students to enjoy their lunches while maintaining safety before students transition to their 30 minutes of recess.

Weather

On Friday, out of an abundance of caution, Dr. Bartz requested that all Chrome books be sent home.  We will be in touch with families in the event of a weather-related delay or virtual day.  Please be sure your child returns to school with their Chrome book and its charger, in its protective case. Thank you.

January 31st Special Olympics Banner Ceremony

On Wednesday, PVES will have a Unified Special Olympics Ceremony. Each class is participating, such as singing a song, or reading something special during the ceremony. The event will be live-streamed (directions for accessing can be found below). We are aware that some students are on the "no video/photo list." If you prefer that your child does not participate with the class and not be on camera live-streamed, there will be a special section in the gym where they can sit and not be on camera.  However,  if you'd like to make an exception for that day and are okay with them possibly being on camera, please let your child’s classroom teacher know.

We are so excited have special dignitaries such as:

-Governor Dan McKee, Governor of Rhode Island

-Mr. Gabe Amo, Congressman

-Dr. Infante Green, Commissioner of Education

-Mr. Edin Pacheco,  Special Olympics of Rhode Island

-Dr. Dawn Bartz, Superintendent of the Smithfield School District

-Ms. Barbare Morse, Channel 10 Correspondent

-Mrs. Cathy Pleau, former Principal of PVE

-Mrs. Amanda Faford, School Committee Member

-Mr. Brian Caisse, School Committee Member
