#Engage, Energize,& Educate

April 17th, 2026

Dear Families,

We made it to April break!  It has been another busy week at PVES.  On Friday, April 10th Senator Tikoian presented Mrs. Marques Jordan with a check for $1,000.00 for a grant she applied for towards the Communication Board for the playground.

A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Lisi, Mrs. Russell, and the entire Reading Week Committee for the fun-filled Reading Week activities that took place this week.  They were enjoyed by ALL!

THERE IS NO SCHOOL MONDAY, APRIL 20th through FRIDAY, APRIL 25th.  We look forward to welcoming all students and staff back to school on Monday, April 27th.

Attention Fifth Grade Families

The fifth grade class picture will be taken on Monday, April 27th.  Please be sure your child wears their green panda t-shirt.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Sarah Gendron, Lila Schmidt, and Matthew Comfort for participating in the half-court shot at the Fifth Grade Basketball Game!

As a special reward, they will be arriving at school in style on Monday, April 27—riding on a fire truck. 🚒

We’re proud of their participation and can’t wait to celebrate this exciting moment with them!

These Students Were Caught Being Kind!

Amaya Cordeiro, Delilah Cabral, Sara Mateo, Annalise Roderick,

A Message from Mrs. Clapprood

Hello from the Library/STEM lab! It’s hard to believe how quickly the year is flying by and yet there is still so much to do!

Grades K–2 students recently created their own coded stories using Scratch Jr., where they learned about sequencing, loops, and debugging. First and second graders will continue building their coding skills with Code.org. Kindergarteners will explore a Fiction vs. Nonfiction webquest focused on animals after enjoying Eric Carle read-a louds together. Soon, all K–2 students will begin engineering projects where they design and build solutions to real-world problems connected to stories we read.

Grade 3 students wrapped up an exciting engineering unit connected to the Winter Olympics. After learning about the history and science behind winter sports, they designed and built downhill skiers that could stay upright on a slope. Students tested and improved their designs, practicing the engineering process. Next, they’ll move on to coding with Code.org to strengthen their computer science skills, problem solving skills and perseverance in completing challenging coding tasks.

Grades 4–5 recently completed Digital Citizenship infomercials on topics like cyberbullying, healthy tech habits, and online safety. Students worked with partners to create infomercials in iMovie, with narration and music, learning valuable editing and collaboration skills. Now, both grades are beginning engineering projects. Fourth graders are designing windmills that can lift a weighted cup using wind power, while fifth graders are researching future careers and creating interactive posters using Scratch Coding and Makey Makeys, a handheld electrical circuit that directly translates code from their computer to their posters when buttons are pressed.

We are still collecting recycled materials such as paper towels and toilet paper rolls, small snack boxes (no Amazon boxes), clean/dry plastic containers of any sort, and shoeboxes. Thank you for your support!

Unified Talent Show

Ability Bridge and SHS Best Buddies is hosting a Unified Talent Show, and we are very excited to bring this event to our students! This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Registration will open on April 13th and close on April 27th, so the window to sign up is limited.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Once registration closes, I will stop by to collect the completed applications.

Thank you so much for your help and support!
