#Engage, Energize,& Educate

May 21, 2026

Good Afternoon Families,

It has been a hot and busy week at Pleasant View Elementary! Students are currently taking their end-of-year STAR Reading and Math assessments. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child is in school on time each day when they are well and able to attend.

As we approach the end of the school year, students often experience a little less structured time throughout the day. During this exciting season, we greatly appreciate your partnership in reinforcing our school expectations: Be Safe, Be Kind, and Work Hard.

What does this look like at school?

  • Be Safe – keeping hands and feet to themselves, making good choices, and following adult directions.

  • Be Kind – using respectful words and actions, including others, and showing empathy toward classmates and staff.

  • Work Hard – staying focused, completing assignments, and continuing to put forth their best effort through the final days of school.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support in helping us maintain a positive learning environment for all students.

Please remember there will be no school on Monday, May 25th, in observance of Memorial Day.

A Message From Mrs. Adler’s Class

Our first grade scientists and engineers recently took on an exciting challenge by designing and building their own bus stops! Students learned that engineers must carefully think about how structures solve problems and communicate important information. One important part of the project was making sure the bus stop clearly told drivers what to do. Students also incorporated biomimicry, which is the practice of studying nature’s designs, processes, and systems and applying those ideas to solve human problems. Finally, students tested their creations to ensure their bus stops were stable and strong. We are so proud of the creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills our first graders demonstrated throughout this engaging project!

A Message From Tom Graczka

On May 23rd, Camp Shepard: Parking is available at 71 Colwell Road.  The hike will follow the Red Trail clockwise to the Purple and Blue Trails as we circle the Sprague Upper Reservoir.  The terrain is gently rolling and follows well traveled trails.  Plan to see former YMCA Buildings, active beaver sign, several stream crossings and one large waterfall.  This will be the most beginner friendly scheduled hike.

Revive the Roots

This  week will be the last week for Revive the Roots.  Below is a summary of what students  learned in the garden.

Kindergarten & Grade 1 - Students discussed, “How does nature recycle? Look for worms, pillbugs, fungus, and more using a field guide. They also learned about worms from Blind Lemon Nightcrawler, the deep underground jazz worm (puppet).” (K-LS1-1, K-ESS3-3, 1-LS1-2)

Grades 2 & 3 - Students discussed what goes into compost. They designed a menu for a restaurant for worms. Students will interview a worm puppet. Then students put up compost ads in the cafeteria and garden.(K-2-ETS1-½, 3-LS1-1, 3-LS4-3)

Grades 4 & 5- Students read A Log’s Life and discuss decomposer food web. Then, they added mulch and leaf litter to beds to retain moisture.
