#Engage, Energize,& Educate

September 3rd

Dear Families,

We are thrilled to celebrate having all of our pandas back at PVES for our almost FIRST Full Week! 🐼 This week, classes have practiced first fire drill procedures and routines. We are very pleased with how well everyone followed the established safety protocols. Throughout the year, we practice a variety of safety drills, including evacuations, lockdowns, and fire drills (both obstructed and non-obstructed). These important practices help ensure that all students and staff know what to do and how to respond safely, no matter where they are in the building.

If you have not yet returned your Student Handbook Acknowledgement and Photo Permission Form, please do so as soon as possible. Thank you for your attention to this important reminder and for your continued partnership!

Please refrain from sending last minute dismissal changes to your child’s classroom teacher as they are teaching and may not receive the message before dismissal.  You should email the office at pvesecretary@smithfield-ps.org before 2:40 pm or call 949-2058. Thank you for your cooperation.

There is No School on Monday, September 7th/Labor Day.

There is also No School on Wednesday, September 9th/Statewide Primary Day/Teacher Professional Development Day.

🌱 Garden Helpers Needed! 🌱

As many of you know, we no longer have Revive the Roots helping us maintain our school garden. Mrs. Viera is looking for 10 students in grades 3–5 to help weed and clean up the garden on Tuesday, September 8th, from 3:20–4:30 p.m.

Interested in helping? Please sign up by emailing Mrs. Viera at tviera@smithfield-ps.org.

Parents are welcome to join us! Students must sign up with Mrs. Viera in advance.

Thank you for helping us keep our garden beautiful! 🌻

Open House

Our PVES Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 10th, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Please see the attached flyer for the schedule, which has been designed to allow the families of our  515 students to visit during an assigned time to help ensure adequate parking and a smooth evening for everyone. The Book Fair will also be taking place in the library, so be sure to stop by and check out the wonderful selection of books! We look forward to seeing all of our pandas and families!

Sense of Belonging

At PVE, our teachers have been intentionally building a strong sense of belonging, and you can see that throughout our school in the welcoming bulletin boards that adorn our hallways. In every classroom, teachers are also focused on creating a sense of belonging by establishing meaningful rituals and routines that help students feel safe, connected, and ready to learn. Our social-emotional learning curriculum, Everyday Speech, further supports this work by helping students develop positive relationships and a strong classroom community.

We also encourage families to establish consistent back-to-school routines at home. Regular bedtimes, morning routines, and time to prepare for the school day can help children feel confident and supported as they transition into the new school year.

School Improvement Team

Our School Improvement Team is made up of dedicated staff members and parents who work together to support the continued growth and success of our school. Each year, the team develops annual goals for our school and monitors our progress toward achieving those goals throughout the year. The team meets three times a year from 8:00–8:45 a.m. to review data, discuss progress, and identify areas for continued improvement. If you are interested in joining our School Improvement Team and helping contribute to the ongoing success of our students and school community, please email Mrs. Viera at tviera@smithfield-ps.org.  Below is our SIP for the 2026-2027 school year.
