Dear Families,
It was a very busy week at Pleasant View! On Tuesday, we had a successful PTO-Boosterthon Fun Run, raised $40,417.00 this year to support enrichment programs and field trips. We also reached our goal of 100% student registration, which means that Friday, October 2nd will be a schoolwide PAJAMA DAY! Thank you to our students, families, and staff for making this fundraiser such a tremendous success!
On Friday, we celebrated our first Unified Day at PVES! We were joined by members of our local fire and police departments, School Committee, SSELAC, PTO, Special Olympics, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, SHS Unified, GMS Unified, and the Town Manager. The assembly was led by Mrs. Marques Jordan with the help of Matt Vieira, who helped our students learn about the importance of choosing to include others through the open circle at recess and P.E. classes.

It was a wonderful celebration of belonging, friendship, kindness, and inclusion, and we are so proud of our Pandas for embracing what it means to be Unified!
The Unified Store is NOW open! It will close on 10/6/26.
Arrival At Door 1
Please remember that only Safety Patrol students should arrive at 8:15 a.m. for their assigned duty. All other students arriving before 8:20 a.m. must remain in their vehicle or with a parent/adult until supervision begins. For the safety of all students, there is no adult supervision at Door 1 before 8:20 a.m. Thank you for helping us ensure that students are supervised and safe during morning arrival.
Attendance Matters!
The Rhode Island Department of Education has provided schools to send home an Attendance Tracker to help families monitor their child’s attendance throughout the school year. The tracker includes full-day absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals, as all missed instructional time can impact a student’s learning. The Attendance Trackers will go home next week.
Regular school attendance is one of the most important factors in a student’s educational success. As you plan vacations and other family activities throughout the school year, please consider the impact that missed school days can have on your child’s learning and progress.
A student is considered chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of the school year. For a typical 180-day school year, that is 18 days of missed school—nearly four weeks of instruction.
Every day matters, and every minute of learning counts! Thank you for partnering with us to help our students attend school regularly!
Best Buddies
We are excited to announce that PVES will be restarting our Best Buddies program in October!
At the elementary level, Best Buddies is not necessarily about pairing a student with a disability with one typical peer. Instead, the program focuses on inclusion, socialization, friendship, and building meaningful connections among groups of same-aged peers. Our goal is to create opportunities for all students to feel connected, included, and a valued part of our school community.
Our goal this year is to begin offering monthly social group opportunities after school, where students can spend time together, participate in fun activities, build friendships, and develop a stronger sense of belonging.
A very special thank you to Ms. Sampson for leading this wonderful initiative, along with Mrs. Hannigan, Miss Naylor, Mrs. Arndt, and Ms. Flynn for their support and commitment to making Best Buddies a successful year at PVES.
We are looking forward to watching friendships grow and seeing our Pandas continue to Be Kind, Be Safe, and Work Hard—together!

A Little Friday Humor 😊
As I close out this week’s newsletter, I have to share a funny story from Friday’s dismissal. As I was wishing students a nice weekend while they were getting on the buses, one of our second graders looked at me and said, “Haven’t you seen the news, Mrs. Viera? It’s going to be a lousy weekend!”
I couldn’t help but laugh! I simply replied, “Well, enjoy some time with your family!”
You never quite know what you’re going to hear at dismissal! Our Pandas know how to keep us smiling. 🐼😊
