Welcome back students! This is going to be a great year!

Welcome to our new school year! We are excited to have all of our faculty, staff, and students back with us. Thank you, families, for all of the ways that you support us. We wish all of the Pleasant View family a great school year!

Thank you, Durham Bus Company, for the wonderful bus tour today for incoming kindergarteners and new grade one students! Pleasant View adults and children enjoyed our morning together!

BUS TOUR OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW KINDERGARTEN AND NEW GRADE ONE STUDENTS:
The Durham Bus Company will be providing a short bus informational session for Pleasant View's kindergarten and new grade one students on bus safety tomorrow, August 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. The event will last one hour and begin with a short talk in our school's cafeteria. Students will then be able to board the buses and ride around the block. Families will enter Pleasant View through door #2, our cafeteria door.

Just a reminder about Grades K-5 Summer Learning Activities:
Read, read, read! Keep track of how many books and magazines you have read over the summer!
Have you participated in Freckles or other math activities?
Are you involved in our town's library programs?
Verify your child's summer learning activities by using the link on our website (Choose Parent Info and then Summer Learning Resources 2022) and your child will be invited to a celebration hosted by the school principals at the beginning of this new school year.

The 2022-23 All Course Network (ACN) registration is now open! ACN is a statewide course catalog that lets students take free courses at colleges, schools, or online. Visit https://enrollri.org/acn for more information.

Thank you, R.I. Department of Transportation, for allowing Pleasant View fifth graders to participate in your wonderful Bike Safety Program. What a wonderful week of learning and fun this was for students and adults!

Thank you, Mrs. Keenan and Mrs. Brousseau, for your dedication and hard work on behalf of Smithfield's children, as well as for your colleagues. Your journey exemplifies not simply a job well done, but rather a true love for your students and this profession.

Superintendent Bartz visited the schools today. She's looking forward to the public meet-and-greet in the Smithfield High School Library from 5:00-6:30 this evening. All are welcome!

Happy Juneteenth Freedom Day!
On Monday we will celebrate Juneteenth. Aduts and students are invited to wear the colors of this heart (red, black, green) tomorrow. We embrace kindness, respect, and inclusion!

Good morning,
The Walking School Bus is "on the road" again this morning.
Enjoy your day!

Tomorrow is Basketball Fun Day at Pleasant View! Wear a team shirt/hat to school; you can also wear a team shirt/hat color instead. It is your decision! You can be supporting a local team or a national team. Have fun with your choice!

Due to today's weather forecast, the grade five trip to Mowry Conservation has been cancelled.
Our Walking School Bus is also "off the road" today.

PVE's 4th grade book club for How to Win a Slime War is up and running for the month of June. We meet every Wednesday and Thursday for a read aloud and a quick chat about the book. It's a great opportunity for our kids to be part of a community of readers!

Congratulations to Jane Ramos who was recognized in Washington, D.C. last week as a 2021 PAEMST award winner (Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching)! This is the nation's highest honor for teachers of science and mathematics.

Save the date! The Smithfield Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force is sponsoring a "Chalk the Walk" event on Saturday, June 11th, from 10:00-1:00 at Gallagher Middle School. Come and create positive chalk messages and art!
